About Excitement-induced Insomnia

Ever lie awake before something awesome? You’re Not Alone!
Long nights staring at the ceiling because of an upcoming adventure (trip, project, major life event)? Don’t worry, it’s ‘excitement-induced insomnia’, and it happens to a lot of people.

WHAT IS IT? (and science 🔬 behind it)
Positive anticipation can make your mind race, making sleep hard to catch. This ‘excitement-induced insomnia’ is caused by a hormonal response. The same adrenaline and cortisol that keep you alert and energetic during the day are now sabotaging your sleep at night!

HOW TO FIX IT:
📝 Write it out:
Write down your excitement or next steps to free up your mind.

😌 Chill out:
Relaxing activities (reading, calming music, warm bath) before bed can help.

📵 Turn off screens:
Blue light from devices disrupts sleep. Power down devices at least an hour before bed.

🧘 Calm your mind:
Deep breathing or meditation can quiet racing thoughts.

Luckily, this is usually temporary thing. But if it becomes chronic and disrupts your daily life, consult a doctor.
