Robot Tori: A New Teammate for our Decathlon Stores

Now if we’re talking about robots, I’d like to share what we’re doing at DECATHLON Česká republika

In the photo, our employee is the Inventory Robot Tori 🤖 (on the right of course 😆, and on the left is our retail robotization wizard 🧙 Jan Maděra).

Robot Tori wakes up after a working day in the store and in 4 hours makes a complete inventory of goods in the store of 4000 sq. m. Previously, this was done by the store employees (and they were not very happy about this event)

We launched a pilot project last year to assess the return on investment and make a decision on scaling.
And here’s why we believe it was a successful launch:
🔹 260 hours are saved annually on inventory processes.
🔹 Store teammates instead of inventory can spend more valuable time with customers.
🔹 Daily inventory accuracy increased to 95% and this plays a big role for online sales. All products in store are available for online customers. That’s why store stock accuracy is crucial.
🔹 Our return on investments calculations were fairly accurate

That’s why last week a new RFID robot appeared in the second store Prague Černý most. And by the end of June we plan to robotize 7 more stores in the Czech Republic.

I believe that our case of robotization is a positive example when a robot becomes part of a team of people, does not take away jobs. And it deals with tasks that are not that interesting to people.

Big shoutout to the team that implemented the project Jan Hejma and Jan Maděra.
