Thoughts on growing layoffs in 2025

Layoffs are becoming more frequent in 2025, and I fear this is just the beginning.

Here’s why: Two spirals are twisting into one big negative loop, making corporate and government jobs increasingly unsafe: economic & tech.

1. Economic
After the COVID-era hiring boom, companies are now focused on efficiency and profitability. They’re investing in technology and automation to cut staff costs from their P&Ls.

This sets off a cycle that feeds itself:
Layoffs → reduced consumer spending → declining business revenue → shrinking profit margins → more aggressive cost-cutting → even more layoffs

2. Technological
AI is replacing white-collar jobs even faster than robotics is replacing Blue-collar jobs. And the speed of change is only increasing.

The workforce is undergoing a permanent shift.

Learning to work with AI is no longer optional—it’s a necessity for businesses and, even more so, for individuals.
